The 2016 Bnos Agudath Israel Leadership Convention was held in Detroit, Michigan on December 8-10, Shabbos Parshas Vayitzeih. More than 320 leaders from 32 cities gathered for a weekend filled with dynamic, inspirational speeches, practical, interactive workshops and camaraderie. Their goal: to learn to provide ruach-filled Shabbos afternoons with a purpose, which is the mission of Bnos Agudath Israel.

The girls received profound divrei bracha from Rabbi Asher Eisenberger, Rav Magen Avraham, Agudas Yisroel. Over the course of the weekend, the convention’s main guest speaker, Mr. Gary Torgow, President, Yeshiva Beth Yehuda and a member of Agudath Israel of America’s Board of Trustees, addressed attendees several times, sharing important insights and remarks. Other speakers discussed such topics as the role of a contemporary leader, dealing with potential discipline issues effectively and the benefits of being a giver. Attendees heard firsthand accounts of the impact of Bnos from the diverse perspectives of parents, leaders and participants within the movement.

And of course, there was good food and meaningful fun, and the opportunity to meet leaders from cities across America and to share ideas on ways to enhance their Bnos groups. On Friday afternoon, the girls went bowling. Shabbos concluded with havdalah, an uplifting musical performance by Bnos of Baltimore, a heartfelt kumzitz, and dancing. Mrs. Chana Baila Hass, National Director of Bnos, said, “It’s great seeing the girls’ excitement as they get to know each other. It gives them a sense of being part of something larger than themselves. The leaders left the convention tired but very happy and inspired.”

Rabbi Labish Becker, Agudath Israel’s Executive Director, concurred. “Agudath Israel is very proud of the highly successful Bnos program. Bnos Shabbos groups provide both a healthy and nurturing environment for elementary school girls on Shabbos afternoon.”

Special thanks were given to the welcoming community of Detroit for their warm hospitality and to the hardworking Bnos advisors who organized the entire convention.
