Our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people, who have done nothing to invite the destruction of their country and the murder of their fellow citizens.
Even as, according to the Ukrainian government, thousands of civilians have already been killed, Russia’s invasion of the country is still relentlessly proceeding. Bombs are falling on nonmilitary sites, tanks are rolling and rockets are being fired into cities.
More than a million refugees have fled Ukraine, and countless others are likely to follow.
We commend the Biden administration for its decisive action to bring substantial economic and other pressures to bear on the Russian government. We commend as well all the nations that have joined in condemnation of the invasion and in the concerted effort to isolate Russia.
And we pray that the strong and principled reaction of the civilized world will convince the Russian leadership to desist from its unwarranted and inexcusable invasion of a sovereign nation.
May the Merciful One accept our prayers and bring peace to the region, and to the entire world.
