Dear New York State Principals and Administrators,
The New York State Education Department (SED) requires all NYS schools to submit a Basic Educational Data System (BEDS) Report annually, based on enrollment as of this year’s BEDS day, which is today, October 6.
The BEDS report is due on November 19, 2021. The timely submission of the BEDS Form is required for many state programs, including the New York State Textbook Loan program, mandated services reimbursement, and for state testing programs.

Please see below for clarification of certain questions:
1. Pre-K Enrollment: Pre-K students who will be four years of age on or before December 1st or who will otherwise be eligible to attend kindergarten (i.e. Pre-1-A) next school year should be reported in this entry. Do not report three-year-olds.
2. Count of Students by District of Residence: For schools outside of NYC, you can locate your district code here. For schools in NYC; there is no one code for the entire NYC. Click here to locate the correct NYC Geo District for students who are NYC residents.
Note: If you are a NYC Non-Public School and have more than 100 students enrolled, you may indicate all students’ district of residence using the first six-digits of your BEDS Code (ex – 310200).
3. Physical and Behavioral Indicators of Child Abuse and Maltreatment Training: Question 12 asks if your teachers have been trained regarding the physical and behavioral indicators of child abuse and maltreatment as outlined in Education Law Section 1132. Schools should check off a date no later than June 2021 at which time the training will be completed. SED has created a training module which can be accessed here. Agudah is currently working on creating a training module that complies with the law but is also sensitive to our community’s standards. We hope it will be available soon.
