A House committee on Wednesday approved House Bill 476, which forbids state contracts with companies that are boycotting, divesting, or sanctioning Israel or its “occupied” territories. The bill passed with a bipartisan vote, which bodes well for its movement out of the full Ohio House of Representatives. Several amendments that would have limited the effect of the bill were tabled along party lines. Representative Kirk Schuring (R-Canton), the bill sponsor, pledged to continue discussions on possible amendments but has been a strong advocate for this bill. Agudath Israel thanks him, and all the supporters and cosponsors, for their effective advocacy at a time when the movement to isolate Israel continues to grow.
