Arizona was the first state to offer a universal school choice program. The expanded Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) which provides $6,500 per child to spend on a variety of educational expenses survived an attempt to challenge the program on the ballot. It currently faces an attempt by the new Governor to stop students from using the ESA.

Arizona also has several scholarship tax credit programs that provide students choosing Jewish day schools millions of dollars in tuition scholarships. For some families, the tax credit scholarship program provides higher scholarship amounts than the ESA’s and parents should consider which program is best for them.
