Dear Providers,
We have received clarification from StateEd regarding certain aspects of the SFSP summer food boxes program.
Please keep in mind that camps and closed enrolled sites are two distinct site types, defined in the regulations separately.
Camps registering as closed enrolled sites:
-
may claim 2 meals a day
-
must be a non-profit
-
a closed enrolled site has the following options:
-
the sponsor can not elect waivers and provide congregate meals to only the enrolled children for the days the children are on site.
-
If the sponsor wants to distribute grab and go meals, they are required to submit the Data Collection For Single Access In SFSP Meal Distribution form. The sponsor must provide detailed information on the registration process, communication to families and the geographic area(s) they plan to draw their participation from for SED to make a determination of approval.
-
Camps registered as camps:
- may claim 3 meals a day
- must have a valid camp permit
In terms of geographic coordination, we do have sponsors throughout the State that are working together to ensure no duplication in access to meals. In one instance, five sponsors within the same geographic area in Brooklyn have collaborated and chosen one sponsor’s site to be a distribution site to provide meals to all registered children from these 5 sponsors.
As a reminder, the deadline to submit the SFSP Renewal is TODAY, June 15, 2021. SED must have complete and accurate information in order to review and approve Program operations. Meals served prior to site approval cannot be claimed for reimbursement.
As always, feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
