Dear NYS Principals and Administrators,
The following guidelines were released by the NYDOH yesterday, June 15, regarding graduation and other end of the year celebrations which occur outside the scope of in-person academic instruction and extracurricular activities.
Most COVID-19 restrictions were lifted yesterday by Governor Cuomo, but there are two exceptions that still apply to academic celebrations:
- Masks are still required for unvaccinated individuals, as per the CDC guidelines.
- For indoor event venues with a capacity of over 5,000, you need to follow the state’s existing guidelines. Proof of vaccination can be used to eliminate social distancing and remove masks for fully vaccinated individuals. Unvaccinated or unknown vaccination status individuals who are over the age of four must continue to present proof of a recent negative diagnostic COVID-19 test result and wear masks within the venue. However, social distancing can be reduced or eliminated between tested attendees, allowing venues to reach 100 percent capacity in all sections.
As always, feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
