Dear NYS Principals and Administrators,
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential childcare institutions. It provides low-cost or free lunches to eligible children. Due to Covid-19, the eligibility requirements for students will be waived for the coming school year which means that schools will be eligible to get 100% reimbursement for meals served to all students, regardless of their financial status. If your school has been considering this, but you have been unsure if it is economically feasible, this year is a great opportunity to pilot the program.
If your school already participates in a child nutrition program, you must apply to operate under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) when you are in the renewal process.
If your school does not already participate in any child nutrition programs, you must apply to become an SFA by August 1, 2021.

For information on how to become an SFA, click here.
- Applying to become an SFA may allow your school to take part in other programs as well, especially if you are eligible for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
- The program has a lot of different rules and provisions, with inspections and audits being performed regularly. If you are interested in taking part, please preserve the integrity of the program for all yeshivos and schools by keeping your accounts accurate and ready for audit at all times.
As always, feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
