Dear NYS Principals and Administrators,
The Nonprofit Security Grant Program provides support for target hardening and other physical security enhancements and activities to nonprofit organizations that are at high risk of terrorist attack. In NYS, the program is administered by the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
Update: Shortly before Pesach, the Homeland Security Grant opened. The application deadline is May 21, 2024 at 5 pm.
The FY2024 Nonprofit Security Grant Program – Urban Area (NSGP-UA) and State (NSGP-S) Request for Applications (RFA) has been posted to the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services website and is ready for immediate action by interested eligible nonprofits. The RFA and other required documents can be found here.
The JCRC Community Security Initiative Security (CSI) grants website is a comprehensive resource for security grant information. There are several useful webinar recordings available in the CSI Consultant’s Corner.
Please note:
- The NSGP is a competitive grant, and typically less than 50% of applications are awarded. Using an experienced grant writer considerably increases the chance of success.
- Organizations can apply for multiple grants of $150,000 each for their various locations. See here for details.
- Click here for a list of FAQs.
- Grant Writer Assistance Program: The Community Service Initiative (CSI), a project of the JCRC, offers a $2,500 grant towards the cost of a grant writer for organizations that have never received a federal or state security grant. For more information, click here.
- To apply for the NSGP, organizations MUST:
- Be in the Statewide Financial System (SFS) at the time of application. Note: this is a change from the NYS Grants Management to the Statewide Financial System (SFS).
- Have a risk assessment done by a qualified person/company. The Community Security Initiative (CSI) offers free security assessments to Jewish organizations located in New York City, Long Island and Westchester. To apply for a professional assessment, click here.
- Register in E-Grants.
- Get a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) Number. If your organization already has one, you do not need to do anything.
- Register (or be exempt) with the NYS Attorney General’s Office Charities Bureau.
