Indiana State Representative Pat Bauer (D- South Bend) and State Senator John Broden (D- South Bend) visited South Bend Hebrew Day School this week. The elected officials were given tours of the school by school administrators and lay leaders of the school. Rep. Bauer spoke to the middle school students about the direct impact of state law on Indiana residents and compared and contrasted Indiana’s General Assembly with the federal government’s legislative branch.
Senator Broden spoke to the younger grades about Indiana’s part time legislature and how laws for which he voted in the General Assembly impacted his full-time job as an attorney. He even fielded questions from the young students about his aspirations for the U.S. presidency! South Bend Hebrew Day School (SBHDS) received the highest rating by the Indiana Department of Education. The invitations to the legislators were initially extended by SBHDS during a visit to the statehouse co-sponsored by Agudath Israel of America.
