Employees turn to us for guidance when their employer is not willing to accommodate their religious observance, in particular their need to not work on Shabbos and Yom Tov. In this section, we include a guide to religious rights in the workplace, explaining the law in this area and what an employee should do if their religious observance is not being accommodated. Students sometimes find that their college or university requires them to take a class or an exam on Shabbos or on Yom Tov. In this section, we include a memo listing state laws and regulations that require institutions of higher learning to accommodate student’s religious observances.
