Dear NYC Principals and Administrators,
The first compliance reports under Local Law 97 (LL97) for buildings over 25,000 SF are due May 1, 2025, for 2024. Non-compliance or late filing can result in significant penalties. A 25,000 SF could face a penalty of $12,500 PER MONTH! Extensions to the deadline may be available. See below for important dates and details.

Important Dates:
- Before February 1: To apply for an extension of the May 1st deadline, you must Hire a Registered Design Professional (RDP) or Retro-Commissioning Agent (RCx Agent) and provide an executed contract and affidavit stating the inability to complete the report on time.
- May 1:
- Deadline to file reports for the 2024 compliance period with the NYC Department of Buildings
- Deadline for submitting the 2024 benchmarking data for LL84: Energy and Water Benchmarking
- Deadline for compliance report for LL88: Lighting Upgrades and Sub-metering
- June 30: Expiration of 60-day grace period to file. A 25,000 SF building will face a monthly penalty of $12,500.
- August 29: deadline for approved extensions
