Dear NYC Principals and Administrators,
New York City requires all nonpublic schools to have a Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor who holds a Certificate of Fitness. Until recently, this meant that yeshiva principals needed to obtain the F-07 Certificate of Fitness, which was geared towards general building safety. Upon the request of Agudath Israel and other nonpublic school representatives, the FDNY developed the D-20 Certificate of Fitness to address the key responsibilities for Fire and Emergency Drill Conductors in nonpublic schools. The FDNY has authorized Agudath Israel of America, among other organizations, to conduct the D-20 training course, and administer the D-20 exam.
We will be conducting the D-20 training course and exam on Tuesday, May 28, 2:00 pm at the COPE Institute at 4006 18th Ave Brooklyn, NY 11218.
Please note:
- An applicant must be either a principal, assistant principal, or otherwise hold a supervisory position.
- Each nonpublic school site must have at least one individual who is a valid D-20 Certificate of Fitness holder on the premises of the school at all times when school is in session. Practically speaking, this means that at least two individuals within a school should obtain the certificate to ensure that at least one individual with a license will be present at all times.
- The D-20 fire safety training and certificate course is reimbursable through the Nonpublic Safety Equipment Grant. We will supply receipts upon completion of the training course.
- The 1.5-hour course will cover all relevant topics. After the presentation, we will administer the D-20 exam. The exams will be graded by a third-party vendor and you will receive your results via email. We will then submit all required documentation to the FDNY, after which you will receive the certificate.
- The cost for the training is $50 plus a $25 processing fee for FDNY.
