Unanimously passes Assembly Education Committee

The Secure Schools for All Children Act, A4288, which would provide $4 million towards security services and equipment for nonpublic schools, passed its first hurdle this week in the Assembly Education Committee, where all 7 present members voted in favor of the bill.

Rabbi Avi Schnall, New Jersey director for Agudath Israel of America, testified before the committee in support of the bill. Rabbi Schnall expressed that we are living in perilous times and recent attacks in this country and around the world threaten the security of our communities. Most vulnerable to these attacks are our children attending school. Rabbi Schnall also mentioned that the State of New Jersey provides over $195 million for security aid for its public school children, however the 150,000 children attending nonpublic schools do not receive a cent from those funds. He stated that all children deserve to be safe in school, regardless of which school they attend.

Agudath Israel would like to express its deep gratitude to Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) who has introduced this bill and is investing tremendous amounts of effort to carry it through the legislative process.
