I have no words to describe the devastation caused by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey. In my many conversations with friends in Houston this week I heard many heartbreaking stories. Most inspiring however, is that Jewish community leaders in Houston have no words to describe their gratitude for the overwhelming generosity of people who donated time, expertise, and resources to help those in need. Agudath Israel created a disaster relief fund and I encourage you to donate by clicking here.

New York City Councilman David Greenfield interviewed me on his weekly radio show where we discussed the situation in Houston and relief efforts in the Jewish community. You can hear the podcast here.

  • Some good news out of Illinois: Governor Rauner signed a historic education bill which included a $100 million scholarship tax credit program. Rabbi Shlomo Soroka and Rabbi Yitzchok Ehrman attended the bill signing.
  • Agudath Israel applauded the Trump Administration this week for retaining the Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues and the Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom. Click here for our entire statement.
  • On Monday, I helped arrange a meeting between a group of Orthodox community leaders in Cincinnati and Israeli Consul General Dani Dayan who was visiting the area. We discussed several issues including the Israeli cabinet’s recent decision regarding prayer at the Western Wall.
