Dear NYS Principals and Administrators,
As of January 1, 2022, the New York State Foam Ban will be taking effect. This means that there will be a ban on single-use foam food and beverage containers, and polystyrene loose fill packaging materials, commonly known as packing peanuts.
This ban applies to food service providers. Schools are included in the ban if they distribute prepared food or beverages for on-premises or off-premises consumption. Please visit the NYS website here for more information and details about this ban.
There is a hardship waiver available, and information regarding applying for the waiver is on the website.
This ban does not apply to NYC, which has their own local ban in place.
