The New York State Education Department announced today that it is following the court’s finding that the previously released Guidelines regarding equivalency of instruction for nonpublic schools were not in compliance with procedural law. NYSED will instead publish proposed new Commissioner’s Regulations in the State Register on July 3rd and will hold a public comment period through September 2nd. The final Regulations are then expected to come before the Board of Regents in fall 2019.
Agudath Israel is supportive of improving the quality of education in yeshivos and all schools, as Agudath Israel and PEARLS have taken a leadership role in doing – on the ground – for years now.
Agudath Israel looks forward to reviewing the draft NYSED Regulations, and toward working with NYSED and the Board of Regents to ensure that we improve education, while scrupulously respecting the autonomy and unique missions of diverse nonpublic schools statewide.
