OPT Updates and Deadlines

Dear Principals and Administrators,

As the school year is coming to a close, we would like to share important information and deadlines to prepare for busing in the fall. Click here for additional general information about bussing.

For additional support, please click here to find the transportation liaisons associated with your district.

General Education (stop-to-school):

  • June 11: Session time application for the 24-25 school year is now open. The deadline to submit session times for the fall is June 11.
  • Confirm the Principal and Transportation Coordinate information on record. Enter the 2024/25 Session time for busing purposes.
  • For schools that do not meet the June 11th deadline, session times will default to the schools 2023/24 session.
  • June 26: This is the deadline for MetroCards.
  • Schools must ensure all serial numbers are associated with all students who were provided MetroCards in the spring. Fall shipment numbers will be based on the number of students assigned a serial number on June 26.
  • Any student who does not have a MetroCard serial number assigned will have their transportation type reset for the fall.
  • All students whose “Transportation Requested” is one of the MetroCard options and were not provided a MetroCard in the spring should be changed to “Not Required”.
  • July 1: This is the deadline to update your Non-Public School Calendars.
  • Update half days, no service days, and Alternate Service days. Please be sure to update both the stop-to-school (general education) and curb-to-school (special education) calendars if your school receives both types of service.
  • July 21: This is the deadline to indicate if your school year will be starting in August. You can do so here.
  • Schools that begin in August will receive MetroCards that begin 8/1-8/30.

Special Education (curb-to-school):

  • Indicate in the Non-Public School Reconciliation application which curb-to-school students will return to your school in the fall. If your school has more than one OPT code, the reconciliation is only for the code that the student is listed under.
  • If a student will attend a different school in the fall, you must contact the Committee on Special Education to delete the student from your roster.
  • July 1: Update half days, no service days, and Alternate Service days. Please be sure to update both the stop-to-school (general education) and curb-to-school (special education) calendars if your school receives both types of service.
  • July 21: If your school will begin the fall semester in August, the school must indicate those dates in the Non-Public School Calendar application by this date.
  • August 9: This is the last day for requesting curb-to-school bus transportation for students by the CSE.

As always, feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
