The visit was initiated by Senator Joan Hartley who Rabbi Weisenfeld arranged to visit the Bais Yaakov last year. She was so moved by a Holocaust remembrance exhibit made by the students, that she insisted it be put on display in the Capitol. Lawmakers, Government officials and the general public were effusive in their praise of the projects, commenting on the art, inspiration and emotion, that each one brought out.

The students were introduced on the House floor by Representative Seth Bronko and on the Senate floor by Senator Joan Hartley.

They sat in on committee hearings and had a chance to speak with Senators Gary Winfield and Senator Erik Berthel.

Representative Ron Napoli held a question and answer session about how the legaslative process works and what it is like serving as a state representative.

The 9th and 10th grades were also privileged to meet with Governor Ned Lamont.

“We are very appreciative to all those who welcomed the students from Bais Yaakov of Waterbury to the State Capitol and to all the lawmakers who took time from their busy schedules to meet with us,” said Rabbi Ari Weisenfeld. “A special thank you goes to Senator Joan Hartley and her legislative aid, Ashley Lamb for all their help in organizing the trip.”
