- The big news in Washington this week was the passage of the COVID relief and spending bill. Agudah worked with others on many components of the bill including the major expansion of the nonprofit security funding, nonpublic school funding, PPP loans, and the charitable deduction among a long list of issues addressed in the 5,593 page bill.
- Yesterday, Agudah’s Yeshiva Services and Government Affairs divisions hosted an informative webinar for nonpublic school administrators summarizing and analyzing the relevant sections of the bill. The bill now awaits the signature of the President who has threatened a veto unless the amount of the stimulus checks are increased among other changes.
- Rabbi Avi Schnall and our New Jersey Office celebrated an increase in state funding for remedial education. As you can see from the article below, advocates can’t stop once a bill passes, but must remain vigilant and engaged until the funding reaches its intended target.
- Agudath Israel condemned the European Union Court’s decision to uphold Belgium’s ban on kosher slaughter.
- As COVID vaccines begin to be administered, Agudah’s chief of staff was interviewed by NPR on the issue of having trusted messengers deliver health information to particular communities.
