Dear Principals and Administrators,
As we have previously shared, the Board of Regents has mandated new training requirements for some educators and has expanded the definition of individuals required to take these trainings.
What are the training requirements?
- Identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment (a.k.a. Mandated Reporter) is a one-time requirement for initial licensure. The certificate of completion should be maintained.
- Identification of child abuse in an educational setting training is an annual requirement. It must be completed by the end of the school year.
Who must take it?
To determine who is required to take these training courses and other information, see the chart here.
How do I obtain the training?
Schools and educators have a few options on how to obtain the trainings.
- The NYS Education Department (NYSED) has partnered with Capital Region BOCES and PowerSchool to offer an online version of the trainings that will fulfill these requirements ($10 fee). For more information, click here.
- The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) offers free online Mandated Reporter Training. For more information, click here.
Reimbursement Eligibility:
The fees associated with both trainings are eligible for reimbursement under the Nonpublic School Safety Equipment (NPSE) grant.
As always, feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
