After several years of advocacy efforts led by Agudath Israel and others, the New Jersey Legislature recently introduced a pair of bills which would increase security funding for nonpublic school students.

Sponsored by Senators Vin Gopal (D-Monmouth) and Jospeh Lagana (D- Bergen and Passaic) Senate Bill S3080 would increase the per-pupil security funding from $75 to $150 per child. While this is still significantly less than the amount allocated for public school security, this bill creates a greater level of parity between public and nonpublic school students.

Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D – Passaic), has been at the forefront of the nonpublic school security funding initiative since its inception at $25 per pupil. Assemblyman Schaer spearheaded the previous efforts to raise the funding to $75, and is the driving force behind the latest proposed increase.

Agudath Israel encourages its constituents to express their appreciation to the sponsors of the bill and let them know how important this funding is for their community.
