Statement on Board of Regents Proposal

Dear Special Education Professionals,

Agudath Israel of America Yeshiva Services is deeply concerned to have learned of a recent regulatory proposal by the New York State Board of Regents (link) that can disenfranchise tens of thousands of vulnerable children with special needs and roll back decades of progress in this arena.

The Agudath Israel team is carefully analyzing the proposed regulation and relevant statutes. We recognize that the Board of Regents may have proposed these regulations in a well-intentioned effort to remove roadblocks and streamline the administration of special education services. Together with our coalition partners, we are engaging with our contacts at several levels of governments to share our deep apprehension about – and push back against – the proposed regulation and its potential for unintended consequences.

We will undoubtedly need your help to combat this threat to special education in New York! Please stay tuned for updates; we look forward to your support.

As always, feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
