As part of our ongoing commitment to support our schools through the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Substantial Equivalency process, we would like to provide you with some important updates for the NYC DOE implementation of Substantial Equivalency. For more information, please see our prior memo.
NYC Yeshivas Chose These Pathways
Of the 343 Yeshivas in NYC
- 128 chose the Assessments pathway (37%)
- 103 chose the High School Registration pathway (30%)
- 88 are participating in LSA Review (26%)
- 64 under LSA Review because didn’t respond
- 24 opted for LSA Review
- 22 chose the Accreditation pathway (6%)
Are schools able to switch pathways?
- Yes, for schools that chose High School Registration, Assessments, or Accreditation pathways, you will be able to switch pathways during the process.
- For schools that chose LSA review or did not respond, once the LSA process begins you will not be able to switch pathways.
LSA Review
- Schools that opted for LSA review will be contacted by their LSA for an initial meeting and entrance interview.
For Schools that chose not to respond to the survey
- NYC DOE will consider these schools as having chosen the LSA review pathway.
- Starting June 17, NYC DOE will be reaching out to schools three times to start the LSA review process.
- Schools that do not respond to the outreach will ultimately be considered non-equivalent.
