Dear Agudah Activist:
We greatly appreciate your advocacy help in urging Congress to boost the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to new levels. BH, we were successful! Congress has appropriated $250 million for the current fiscal year.
But we know our work is not over.
Threats continue to increase, as violent antisemitic incidents and hate crimes have risen in recent years. That is why NSGP remains one of Agudath Israel’s top priorities. Simply put, we need to continue bolstering the program.
Toward that goal, we are pleased to endorse the bipartisan Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) Improvement Act of 2022 (H.R. 6825), introduced by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) and Ranking Member John Katko (R-NY). The bill was recently reported favorably out of the House Homeland Security Committee and will next be considered by the full chamber.
The NSGP Improvement Act will provide $500 million annually through 2028 to NSGP. It will also establish a dedicated office within FEMA to administer the program, and to provide nonprofits greater outreach, education, technical assistance, and support.
The doubling of funds will provide more resources to protect our shuls, yeshivos and charitable institutions. A dedicated office will provide a sharper and more specialized focus on these threats within our nation’s homeland security framework.
But before lead sponsors Thompson and Katko bring the bill to the floor, they are seeking to garner as much support as possible and better ensure its passage. Please urge your Representative to co-sponsor this vital legislation as soon as possible. Click here to take action now.
Some have already signed on to be co-sponsors, including Representatives Barragan, Clarke, Cleaver, Correa, Demings, Fitzpatrick, Garbarino, Gottheimer, Green, Jackson Lee, Langevin, Luria, Malinowski, C. Maloney, Manning, Meijer, Miller-Meeks, Payne, K. Rice, Salazar, Sarbanes, Slotkin, Swalwell, Titus, Torres, Van Drew, and Watson Coleman. Please thank them!
Thank you for your partnership!
