As we are now almost 14 months since the horrific Hamas terrorist attack of last October 7th, our security situation locally has become even more dire. Anti-semitism in the United States was rising even before the Hamas attack, but in the year since, it has risen to unprecedented levels.

Current New York City law allows the city to reimburse non-public schools for the cost of security guards. However, this law requires a school to have a student population of 300 or more in order to be eligible. Intro 532 introduced by City Councilman Justin Brannan and co-sponsored by Councilman Kalman Yeger and others, provides a crucial upgrade as it would allow all schools to participate, regardless of size.

In light of security risks, many schools have been forced to cut back on other programs or added a security surcharge to parents.

Contact your Councilmember with the below action alert and urge them to pass Intro 532 which will expand the program to all non-public schools.
